“The success of the PLC concept depends not on the merits of the concept itself, but on the most important element in the improvement of any school – the commitment and persistence of the educators within it.” – Richard DuFour The fundamental purpose of the school is to ensure high levels of learning for all students. The presenter, Janel Keating, will demonstrate the 6 essential characteristics of a PLC and how these characteristics transformed the district where she serves as Deputy Superintendent. The characteristics include: 1) shared mission, vision, values, and goals, 2) collaborative teams focused on learning, 3) collective inquiry, 4) action orientation and experimentation, 5) commitment to continuous improvement, and 6) results orientation. Janel has authored numerous leadership articles and is currently the President of the Washington State affiliate of ASCD. She has trained with and is strongly recommended by Rich and Becky DuFour and Dr. Eaker. May 12-13, 2010 (registration deadline: April 27, 2010). Location: Avalon Banquet Facility, 3500 East Route 30, Merrillville, IN 46410. Doors open at 8:00AM, program begins promptly at 8:30AM each day and concludes at 3:00PM. Meals, book, and materials are included in the registration fee. $200 – NWIESC members and members of other Indiana ESCs; $400 – Non-Members. 3 graduate credits will be made available for an additional fee.
