Detailed Description
Project CRISS was developed by Carol Santa, PH.D. (Past-President of the International Reading Association) and a team of high school teachers. The goal of the project is to equip students with a vast toolkit of learning strategies and with the knowledge to create strategic plans for all learning tasks they might encounter in school, work, and beyond. Through teacher modeling and guidance, students learn how to learn. Applicable to comprehensive school reform and standards-based instruction, Project CRISS provides over 25 years proven success supported by numerous scientific research studies. Project CRISS advocates active, multi-sensory, and metacognitive teaching and learning. Accordingly, CRISS transforms the traditional “lecture and test” classroom into a stimulating, dynamic learning environment. Recent advances in brain compatible learning substantiate the merits of this philosophy and help explain the project’s success, longevity, and national proliferation.
